You Can Do It! Having Difficult Conversations with Your Child

Sexting, legal marijuana, pharm parties & eggplant emojis.  Our children are living in a world much different than how things were when we grew up. Strong communication skills are important for children to have healthy relationships with their peers and the adults in their lives.  The presenters in this session work at Children’s Center, the child abuse intervention center for Clackamas County.  As such they are used to having difficult conversations with children and teens on a daily basis!  In this session, we will review some of the topics which are difficult for us to bring up with our children but are such important issues to address.  Using examples from the media we will talk about both good and bad ways to have these difficult conversations with your children.  Attendees should leave the presentation with a general framework toward honest and open communication with their child.
