Utility Maintenance/Electrician


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Limited maintenance electrical license required. Journeyman electrical license preferred.

2. Ability to communicate effectively as required in the position.

3. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.

4. Thorough knowledge of the tools, materials, methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment.

5. Considerable knowledge of heating and cooling systems, their operation, maintenance and repair thereof.

6. Considerable knowledge of the requirements of maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean and efficient fashion.

7. Considerable knowledge of the procedures and techniques for making routine but moderately complex electrical, plumbing, mechanical and construction repairs.

8. Ability to prioritize activities and workloads.

9. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor involving the movement of equipment and furnishings.

10. Ability to maintain necessary record-keeping systems.

11. Ability to follow through on oral and written instructions or work requests by implementing appropriate action and ensuring that work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.

12. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other custodial staff, supervisors, teachers, principals and students.

13. 3 to 5 years of experience in plumbing, mechanical, and construction repairs.

SUPERVISES:

None

JOB GOAL:

Under general supervision, to do semi-skilled and skilled work in several trades in the maintenance, construction and repair of buildings, equipment and grounds and to do related work as required.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs repairs, installation and preventative maintenance on primarily (but not limited to) electrical fixtures, equipment and related systems. Performs repairs on mechanical, plumbing and carpentry related items. Repairs desks, tables, doors and windows. Does painting as needed.

2. Inspects buildings and grounds regularly to identify safety hazards, main- tenance, and prioritizes and completes assignments accordingly.

3. Operates heating system which involves monitoring controls, making minor adjustments, cleaning parts of the system and performing maintenance work on heating and ventilating equipment. Services electric motors, controls and circuits.

4. Coordinates major maintenance and/or repair projects during schools breaks or summer months, etc.

5. Drives to school after hours or on weekends or holidays to respond to emergency calls or situations as required.

6. Maintains or makes repairs to building equipment as requested by work orders, or as demanded by emergency.

7. Makes repairs and adjustments to plumbing equipment and apparatus in school plants--cleaning plugged drains, flushing sewer lines, and replacing faucets, washers and gaskets.

8. Performs other tasks as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month year, eight hours per day. Salary and work year to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Maintenance Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation.
