Creating a Safe & Secure environment for all

At Oregon City School District, the safety of every student, staff, visitor and community member is of utmost importance to us.

What we do to keep schools safe

SECURE CAMPUS

All exterior doors and gates remain locked during school hours. We utilize secure entry systems and vestibules to ensure only authorized and approved individuals can enter our buildings. All volunteers must undergo an annual background check. In addition, all visitors, volunteers and contractors must check in at the office upon arrival on site.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

We regularly conduct emergency drills to ensure everyone knows how to respond in an emergency. These include fire/evacuation drills, as well as drills for threats outside of the building (Secure), threats inside the building (Lockdown), shelter-in-place situations and emergencies that require clearing the hallways (Hold).

Each school location has a detailed emergency plan that is reviewed and updated regularly.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS

We are proud to have a strong partnership with Oregon City Police Department and our School Resource Officers (SROs), who play an essential role in maintaining a safe and supportive school environment. Their consistent presence on campus not only strengthens school safety but also helps ensure that we are prepared for any situation. Their ongoing support and insight into best practices allow us to stay proactive and responsive in keeping our school community safe.

TRAINING & EDUCATION

Students and staff learn about safety and emergency preparedness throughout the school year. They are taught how to respond to various emergency situations using the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and by participating in routine drills. Emphasis is placed on door safety, including the importance of keeping doors secure and never allowing unauthorized individuals into the building. Students and staff work to develop their situational awareness and are encouraged to report suspicious behavior or threats to administrators, local law enforcement or through the SafeOregon tip line.

SAFEOREGON TIP LINE

We partner with SafeOregon, a statewide tip line that allows students, families and community members to report safety concerns confidentially. Whether it is bullying, threats or suspicious behavior, tips submitted through SafeOregon are quickly routed to the appropriate school or law enforcement officials, helping us respond proactively and maintain a safe environment.

Submit a tip at www.safeoregon.com, call or text 844-472-3367 or use the SafeOregon app.

VISUAL ALERT SYSTEM

Some of our schools are equipped with a visual alert system that uses color-coded lights to signal different types of emergency situations. This system ensure that students and staff are aware of an alert, even in crowded or noisy areas. The lights provide an added layer of communication, helping everyone respond quickly and appropriately during an emergency. If you see blinking lights when approaching a school building, please do not attempt to enter the building. This indicates that there is an emergency or drill that is occuring on campus.

SECURITY GLAZING

Our schools are equipped with security glazing to enhance safety and protection. Security glazing is a reinforced glass treatment that makes windows more resistant to breakage, helping to deter forced entry and delay potential intruders. This added layer of protection supports a safer school environment by providing valuable time for emergency response and increasing overall building security.

EMERGENCY RADIOS

Oregon City School District utilizes a comprehensive radio communication system to support both daily operations and emergency response. Each building is equipped with portable handheld radios for routine internal communication and immediate emergency coordination. In addition, every site has a base station that enables seamless emergency communication across buildings and throughout the entire district.

CAMPUS SUPERVISORS

Oregon City High School employs dedicated Campus Supervisors who play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff and high school facilities. These team members actively monitor exterior doors, patrol hallways and parking lots, and are always available to assist with any safety-related concerns. Working in partnership with our School Resource Officers, Campus Supervisors help create a positive, supportive atmosphere where every student can thrive in a safe and engaging learning environment at Oregon City High School.

REUNIFICATION

Oregon City School District has a reunification plan in place for all types of emergencies. Whether it involves a building-level, on-site reunification, a larger, off-site reunification or a district-wide response, we are prepared. Our procedures are designed to safely and efficiently reconnect students with their families. We understand that reunification during an emergency can feel overwhelming, but it is important to remember that our staff practice safe reunification every day - ensuring students are only released to approved adults and arrive at the correct transportation drop-off locations.
