Three-year award from Oregon Department of Education provides $950,000 annually to fund district-wide summer school programs serving more than 600 students

Oregon City School District 62 has been awarded a $2.85 million grant from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) to fund summer school programming over the next three years. The $950,000 annual investment will support four distinct summer learning programs serving students from incoming Kindergarten through 12th grade.

The district's goal is to enroll more than 600 students this summer alone, providing academic support and enrichment designed to strengthen students' readiness heading into the fall. The grant-funded programming is separate from and in addition to Extended School Year (ESY) services, which will continue as scheduled.

"This grant is a meaningful investment in our students' futures," said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sarah Crane. "Summer learning is a powerful tool we have to close gaps, build confidence, and set students up for a strong start in the fall. We're excited to be able to offer this opportunity to families across the district."

Four Programs, Three Sites
This summer's programming will be offered at three school sites under four program names, each tailored to a specific grade range. These programs are by invitation only, if you think your student would benefit from summer learning, please connect with your principal.

  • Discovery Launch will serve current Kindergarten through 4th grade students at Gardiner Middle School. Student sessions run Monday through Thursday, July 7 - August 7.

  • Kinder Launch is designed specifically for incoming Kindergarten students and will be held at Jennings Lodge Elementary School in two separate two-week sessions — one in July and one in August — offering families flexibility in scheduling.

  • Bridge Launch will support current 5th through 8th grade students at Tumwata Middle School. Sessions run Monday through Friday, June 22–July 10.

  • Credit Launch will serve current 9th and 10th grade students, also at Tumwata Middle School, running concurrently with Bridge Launch from June 22–July 10. All programs include dedicated staff professional development and preparation days prior to student start dates.

Getting Students Enrolled
To support outreach and registration, the Recruitment & Outreach Specialists will connect directly with families at their schools to ensure students are signed up and have the information they need to participate.
